Townhouse Bad Tölz

The sculptural shape of the building mediates between the two heights of the adjacent buildings and connects both the ridge and the eaves through the polygonal roof surfaces. Inside the building, alternately arranged air spaces and stairs lead from the ground floor to the roof. One function is accommodated on each floor.

Living St. Antonius church

The vacant St. Anthony’s Church in Bochum is to be partially demolished, renovated, converted and supplemented by a new building. Apartments of various sizes and an underground car park are to be created.

The nave, which has been stripped back to its outer walls, will be supplemented by a new building. The original gable roof form will be resumed and continued in the two extension annexes.
After preparing the design and coordinating with the relevant authorities in Bochum, a local architectural firm submitted the project for planning permission.
Following the acquisition of an investor, the project is now being implemented in a partially modified form.

House S

An existing house in Munich is to be renovated and extended. For this purpose, the structural typology of the adjacent bungalow in the form of a horizontally oriented building is adopted as a concept for the extension. The roofs projecting on three sides refer to the significant form of the bungalow. The inner courtyards are taken up again in the form of air spaces in the new concept for the existing building.

Böcksteiner Straße

Based on the maximum construction area of the property, the building was developed with four residential units, with multiple projecting and recessed areas. In keeping with this typology, window and door openings in different shapes and sizes perforate the block. The classic façade orientation, with its homogeneous window arrangement, was broken up by using a mixture of small, wide, and square windows with skylights.

House N

A detached house on Samerberg was designed for a couple from Munich. The site plan provided for a main house as well as an outbuilding to be rented as a vacation apartment. The focal point of the new house is the large mezzanine opening in which the stairwell is centred. The design concept addressed themes such as expansion and contraction, insight and outlook, as well as light and shadow. Both spaces blend into the topography of the site due to the vertical placement of their structures.

Student apartment house Würzburg

The existing complex – consisting of front building, courtyard, and rear building – is located on Semmelstrasse in the centre of Würzburg. Historically, this street was a centre for the baking trade, where many bakers had their bakeries and shops. It was important that the architectural quality and historic atmosphere of the building remain alive, even after the reconstruction and renovation. For this reason, apartments of different sizes were carefully planned within the structure. A total of 54 rooms in 20 apartments were created. Each 3–4 rooms share a common kitchen and bath. All three parts of the building are accessed from the inner courtyard.

House M

The building represents the layering of two-house typologies. The ground floor was designed as a bungalow, supporting the volume of a detached house. In this way, the client’s wish to live in bungalow was met, while still accommodating all the necessary rooms in a room plan for a family of four. The ground floor was retained as a very open, spacious area for the family to gather and live, while the upper floor bedrooms and bathrooms were arranged around a central mezzanine opening. The layering of the volumes can also be seen in the façade design. While the ground floor was made of exposed concrete, the upper floor, with its plaster finish, has a more discreet appearance.

House of encounters

A patchwork family from Munich wanted a design for a private house that allows enough space and privacy for both families, but also offers the possibility of interconnecting rooms and areas to inhabit the house as one unit. Uncoupled from a property, a house of gathering, retreat, and change was diagrammatically designed.

H33

The existing building from the year 1956 – in a prominent location across from the Rosenkranz church in Neubiberg – will be completely renovated and raised by another level. The gable will be turned by 90° towards the street, the cullis asymmetrically moved to maintain the setback. A new building volume will thereby be created while still incorporating the preservation-worthy building. The irregularly-structured window openings underline the monolithic, sculptural appearance of the structure.

House Geipel

The design envisages the reconstruction and expansion of a townhouse in Munich. The spatial expansion of a box on the ground floor generates a flowing room containing kitchen, dining area, and living space. The addition takes on the outer edges of the existing house, creating a flowing transition between the interior and exterior. Additionally, the large glass facade allows for a lot of light inside. Both of the top rooms receive a terrace on the room of the addition, also connecting these rooms to the outdoor area and visually enlarging them.

Campus Viva Munich

CBA was contracted to design the interior rooms as well as the facade of the student apartment house Campus Viva in Munich. The architectural interior concept that CBA had already developed for the apartment house in Bremen was also largely adopted here. The common areas present a flowing room divided by individual functions and accentuated by colors and materials. The apartments are functional, simple, and allow for individual design by the resident.
